Delicot Ultra-Thin Neurosurgical Pattie

  • Designed for newer microsurgical techniques that utilize a smaller incision and operating site, thereby requiring less retraction on the brain
  • Exceptional pliability & flexible maneuvering
  • Thinner 0.33 mm pattie and locator string for improved visibility
  • Precision cut providing smooth edges, reducing the potential for loose fibers

Delicot® ultra-thin neurosurgical patties are the only product that was made for delicate microsurgical procedures with a 0.33 mm profile allowing for precise positioning, molding, and superior pliability for instrument support and tissue protection. Delicot® demonstrates the best filterability of fluids via suction and is capable of absorbing greater than 8 times its dry weight. It was developed in partnership  with Dr. Takanori Fukushima to allow him to perform his revolutionary techniques that could not be done with traditional patties.

Manufactured in Salem, Massachusetts, U.S.A.

“Delicot are the best sponges I have been able to find for microsurgery. They are thin. They are strong. They don’t shed. They add good protection to the brain without adding extra bulk. They come in multiple sizes which is also very helpful.”

Allan H. Friedman, M.D.
Chief, Division of Neurosurgery, The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center and Preuss Lab

Delicot patties are superior to the standard patties because they are thinner, more pliable, and most importantly do not stick to the brain.

I use them to separate normal brain tissue from a tumor. They help me form a circumferential boundary while I dissect, so I know where I’ve been and do not have to do all the work again when I come back to the same spot, but need to go deeper. They also provide a mild degree of hemostasis while keeping the operative cavity small. This means a smaller incision, exposure site, and more importantly less retraction on normal brain tissue.”

Using standard patties is too thick, and when you pull them off, they stick, bleed, and you have to obtain hemostasis again. In delicate and eloquent areas, for example, during a sylvan fissure dissection, anything that sticks can lead to a potential MCA branch hemorrhage. Getting hemostasis of this may mean sacrificing the artery, which can lead to a stroke. Without the protection of these patties, you can more easily get more bleeding.

“I have been using Delicot sponges for almost twenty years now. There is no doubt in my practice that the soft consistency and pliability of these sponges has fundamentally shaped the way that I do surgery. Protection of neural and vascular structures just cannot be done as effectively or safely when using thicker, stiffer sponges. Therefore, I have come to rely on Delicot sponges as a critical element to intracranial surgery and spinal cord microsurgery.”

“American Surgical Company delivers impeccable service and top-flight products tailored to your particular neurosurgical needs. This is one of the few privately owned surgeon-friendly manufacturers that actually delivers superb products.”

Richard G. Ellenbogen, M.D., F.A.C.S.,
Professor and Chairman, University of Washington School of Medicine

“I have been using Delicot and other neuro patties produced by American Surgical Company in nearly all of my surgical cases, which comprises over 6000 major craniotomies and skull base procedures over the past ten years. I have not encountered any problems with safety or any complications by these neuro cottonoids or patties.”

Professor of Neurosurgery, Duke University
