X-Ray Detectable Strung Cotton Balls
- Each sterile strung cotton ball contains an x-ray detectable marker for increased safety and accountability.
- Available with or without locator strings. The locator strings allow for easier traceability post-procedure.
- Available in 8 sizes ranging from 3mm to 51mm, this eliminates the need to spend time manually tearing tufts of cotton during procedures which can impact accountability and lead to gossypiboma or textiloma
Cotton balls are commonly used in a variety of surgical procedures. A common practice is to tear tufts of cotton from a larger cotton ball or pad and place them in the surgical site. This method can be cumbersome, generate loose fibers, and the inserted cotton is not x-ray detectable. It can be far more difficult to locate lost cotton balls without the benefit of radiopacity thus increasing the risk of gossypiboma and longer operating times.
In order to reduce these potential complications, American Surgical Company provides the surgeon with a line of ready-made x-ray detectable cotton balls.
